Wild, 2014. Starring Reese Witherspoon
If I ever changed my last name it would be, Bold, not hesitating, nor fearful, breaking bounds. My current name, Ward can mean a spatial term or the act of warding off evil, or guarding something. Unfortunately, I think I've been a little too good at guarding my heart. Protecting it from shattering, keeps it whole, but very isolated. And in the words of the great Dr. Phil, "How's that working for you?" I don't need to have a ton of introspection to confirm it isn't. I'm still single, which has been okay, but I'm ready for a relationship. So, if not legally, at least in my mind I'm changing my name to Ericka Bold. Cheryl Strayed, the woman Reese Witherspoon played in this film has inspired me to step into this new role. I loved the idea of walking 1,000 miles to understand why she was hurting herself, destroying her chance at happiness.
When you start punishing yourself, instead of forgiving yourself you run into a world of hurt. Strayed had to learn to let go of the negative self-talk so she could reach her full potential, which was amazingly, to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. Her story is inspiring, like so many others, when you finally stop being so hard on yourself and instead celebrate the challenges you overcome and the accomplishments you make.
So, if you're feeling frustrated and you want to make a change, try starting by changing your last name. It's a simple step, but a definitions hold power, the power to enslave or liberate.
Make Wild a must-see for 2014 films. I give it 3.5/4 stars. Reese did a great job of looking filthy and being raw.
